Gender Study: Mangir Drama By Pramoedya Ananta Toer

Abstract

This research examines patriarchal culture and gender inequality in the text, specifically Pramoedya Ananta Toer's Mangir drama. The primary source for this research is Pramoedya Ananta Toer's drama Mangir, while secondary sources include some previous research on the sociological study of feminism. Additionally, feminism's sociological approach to patriarchal culture and forms of gender inequality presents a critique of patriarchal culture and forms of gender inequality. This is a descriptive qualitative study, and one of the study's findings indicated that the Mangir drama emphasized the archipelago's feudalism. Second, there is a patriarchal culture that contributes to female figures' gender inequality. For instance, female figures are regarded as inexpensive goods. Third, gender inequality affects the effects of differences in social status, which means that not only do women experience gender inequality in this text, but also men. Fourth, women's resistance to gender inequality often takes the form of hiding behind men's shields and daring to express their true feelings.
